Aside from working as a bankruptcy attorney, Dennis Sargent spends a lot of time involved in community services and other activities.
“I am truly blessed in my life and have had some real positive things happen to me, so I felt like I needed to give back,” Sargent said. “When you give back or help out others it comes back to you tenfold.”the holiday season, Sargent participates in the Salvation Army Angel Tree distribution.
Sargent is also a member of the American Legion Post 124 in Apex, N.C. The group meets twice a month and supports veterans and veterans’ rights. Sargent, a former member of the army, has been a Legion member for more than 20 years.
While Sargent loves helping people find debt management solutions, his other passion is racing. You can find him at a track nearly every weekend from March to October. He regularly sponsors and assists at local racetracks such as the Orange County Speedway and Wake County Speedway. His work includes handling the website and printing signs in addition to racing cars.
“My favorite activity is helping out at race tracks,” he said. “I just love racing and anything thing that I can do to promote it is for me.”
Sargent also participates in his children’s extracurricular activities, which include Little League baseball and high school football. While balancing all of his commitments with work is a challenge, Sargent said he enjoys having a full range of activities and that balance is the key to a good life — and good money management.
“I just do what I can do,” he said. “I believe that in order to be successful, you need to help others be successful.”
